In November of 2011 this announcement was made:

Some sad news is that Oxford Guitar Gallery, which has been open in Summertown for eleven years, has closed down. The guitar and equipment shop, which was always a nice place to be, cites declining sales as the reason for the closure.

The shop will be sorely missed, as it was friendly, welcoming and very supportive of the local music scene. Musicians of Oxford – make sure to avail yourself of the facilities still available. You’ll miss them when they’re gone!

Quality Guitars, Amplifiers and Accessories

The Oxford Guitar Gallery, which was once located at 9 South Parade, Oxford, Oxfordshire, OX2 7JL, has a rich history as a hub for guitar enthusiasts. Founded on July 17, 2000, the shop was not just a retail outlet but a cherished part of the local music community in Oxford. It offered an extensive range of guitars, amplifiers, and accessories, catering to both amateur and professional musicians. The shop was also renowned for its custom guitar building services, a testament to its dedication to quality and craftsmanship.

Beyond retail, the Oxford Guitar Gallery provided invaluable services such as guitar servicing and repairs, demonstrating a commitment to the longevity and performance of the instruments they sold. This level of service contributed significantly to the shop's reputation for excellence in customer care and technical expertise.

One of the key aspects that set the Oxford Guitar Gallery apart was its custom guitar building service. This bespoke service catered to musicians seeking a personalized touch to their instruments, showcasing the shop's commitment to craftsmanship and individual musicians' needs. The store was also equipped with a workshop dedicated to guitar servicing and repairs, ensuring that customers' instruments were maintained to the highest standard.

Unfortunately, the business faced financial challenges, which are evident in its financial records. The last accounts made up to September 30, 2010, showed that the company was operating with significant liabilities and a negative net worth. This financial strain eventually led to the dissolution of the company on November 22, 2013.

The closing of the Oxford Guitar Gallery was a significant loss to the local music scene in Oxford. It had become a gathering place for guitar enthusiasts, a venue for sharing knowledge and passion for music, and a supporter of local musicians. The shop's commitment to quality, customer service, and the musical community left a lasting impact on those who visited and patronized it.

Despite its closure, the Oxford Guitar Gallery remains a fond memory for many in the Oxford music scene. Its impact went beyond mere sales; it fostered a community of guitar lovers and supported the musical culture of the area. The legacy of the Oxford Guitar Gallery lives on in the memories of those who frequented the shop, experienced its services, and became part of its community.

The story of the Oxford Guitar Gallery is a reminder of the challenges faced by small, specialized businesses in a changing economic landscape. While its physical presence has ceased, the memories and experiences it provided to the Oxford music community continue to resonate.
